Gouveneur is a grandson of the famous Grande who is ranked in the German Eternal Top 10 Sire List. Grande is the grandsire of U.S. champion and Olympic medalist Gifted, and is also the grandsire (through two different sons) of the 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist Gigolo FRH and Grunox. Gouverneur's sire, Grandduell, was himself an outstanding sire and performance horse, having been second out of 57 horses at his stallion licensing on 1978 at Adelheidsdorf! His sociable attitude with ability and willingness as well as his rideability and abundant movements carry on through Gouverneur. Gouv's dam is an A-line mare with the famous Abhang I on both sides of her pedigree.

While on the Arizona show jumper circuit in the 1980's , this dynamic stallion was chosen by the American Hanoverian Society as an exceptional example of the Hanoverian breed and his photograph was used in an AHS promotional brochure. Gouverneur was long listed in Dressage for the 1996 Canadian Olympic team, was twice Canadian Sport Horse Champion of the Year and was selected Get of Sire Champion in 1990.

This stallion moved from Canada to Texas in August of 1997 and has since been busy on the show circuit and in training for his continued dressage career. He was Reserve Champion at Grand Prix, Region 9, SWDC, 1998. He qualified his amateur owner for Championships at Prix St. George in 2000 and in 2001.

Gouverneur has produced many premium foals and both line performance champions. He stamps his foals with outstanding willingness and disposition. A son of Gouverneur was recently awarded the coveted Canadian Award of Excellence in Dressage. Gouverneur presented the Champion Yearling Filly and the 7th place Yearling Filly, Dressage at Devon, 2002. He is approved for breeding with the AHS, two-star ISR Oldenburg, N.A. and Oldenburg Verband. Gouverneur is retired from his riding and breeding career and spending his senior years happily in his pasture with Treat.
